Master of Legal Studies – 2022
Christian has a background in both medicine and law: he is a retired family physician in the United Kingdom who worked as a legal consultant with a London-based firm before pursuing a graduate degree. His desire to combine both passions into a new career, plus Northeastern Law’s excellent reputation, is what led him to the online Master of Legal Studies program.
Why did you choose to earn your MLS degree from Northeastern Law?
I was keen to acquire skills in American legal studies, as my prior skills were exclusively based on British law.
Northeastern University constitutes one of the most reputable universities in the United States that offers a Master of Legal Studies with a concentration in health law.
I consider myself exceptionally lucky to have been instructed by the amazing, impeccable Northeastern faculty. I would not hesitate to advance my studies further here.
What goals do you hope to achieve from the MLS program?
Because of my background in medicine and law, I hope to become a healthcare law lecturer — I was a healthcare practitioner and now am a career legal practitioner who advises clients on healthcare-related law, including ethics, personal injury and medical negligence.
The MLS program has been a good fit with this goal because it tremendously improved my professional abilities, including drafting, negotiation and project management, as well as my analytical, communication and decision-making skills.
Alternatively, I would like to work in a healthcare-related industry, if an opportunity arises there first. The MLS also gives me a competitive advantage in this area.
What is one exceptional project you worked on in the program?
Two projects come to mind: in my Introduction to Legal Studies 2 class, I worked on a project about HIPPA. In my Health Law Survey class, I worked on a project about the impact of having access to healthcare.
What else would you like to tell future students about the program?
The program is worth every second you apportion to it, as it is very well-structured. If you work hard, you should be able to achieve your goals.
